Fermentation Process Development Associate

Manus Bio is a next-generation industrial biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts that produces plant-based ingredients. We use a variety of patented and proprietary technologies to engineer microbes for the production of specialty chemicals, such as food ingredients, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.  We are seeking a highly motivated Fermentation Process Development Associate to assist in the development of novel microbial fermentation-based processes to produce various natural products. The ideal candidate will have experience in running benchtop fermentations and excellent aseptic techniques. This hands-on position requires a desire and ability to work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as the demonstration of a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and initiative applied to the various duties and aspects of the position. This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manus Bio’s process development team located in Augusta, GA. 


  • Support development, testing, and optimization of fermentation conditions and parameters for the production of complex natural products
  • Work collaboratively with the bioprocess development team and pilot plant team in Augusta and R&D team in Cambridge to evaluate strains and provide feedback on strain performance
  • Communicate results of experiments with colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a four year college or university in a related scientific or technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with microbial cultivation
  • Excellent aseptic technique.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, and communication.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience running benchtop bioreactors is a plus.
  • Experience in analytical equipment like YSI, HPLC, GC-FID and GC-MS etc. is a plus.
